Apple will begin releasing Immersive Video concert recordings created specifically for viewing on the Vision Pro virtual reality headset. On Friday, March 14, a Metallica show filmed on 180-degree cameras at a concert in Mexico City as part of the cult band’s world tour will be released.

The concert film features full recordings of three Metallica songs: Whiplash, One, and Enter Sandman. Apple Vision Pro owners are promised “unprecedented access to James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo — from vantage points like the famous Snake Pit to wide-angle views of the band’s energetic tour performance.”
To record Metallica’s concert, Apple engineers built a “custom stage setup with 14 Apple Immersive Video cameras,” as well as gimbaled cameras, rigged cameras, and cameras on remote-controlled dollies that moved around the stage. “Apple Immersive Video is changing the way people experience storytelling, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Metallica on a concert like no other. With Metallica on Apple Vision Pro, you’ll feel like you were there: front row, backstage, and even onstage with one of the greatest bands of all time,” promised Tor Myhren, Apple’s vice president of marketing communications.
The Metallica show will be available for free on Friday, March 14, in the Apple TV app for Apple Vision Pro owners. The company will continue to release more shows in the future, including new episodes of Adventure and Boundless, the VIP: Yankee Stadium tour, and the film Bono: Stories of Surrender.
