Sony has seriously angered PC users in recent months by requiring them to link their PSN account to their games. PS5 owners will soon find themselves in a similar situation, thanks to the open-world arcade racing game Forza Horizon 5.

Journalists from DoesItPlay have noted that a Microsoft account is required to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This is mentioned in a collection of answers to the most popular questions about the upcoming release.

«Yes, in addition to a PSN account, you will need to link a Microsoft account to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This process takes place the first time you launch the game on your console,” the official Forza website says.

As noted on the Windows Central portal, Forza Horizon 5 will not be the first Xbox game on PS5 with a requirement to link a Microsoft account. A similar feature accompanied the release of the pirate action game Sea of Thieves on the Sony console.

Unlike Sea of Thieves, however, Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 has crossplay support, but not cross-platform saves. In other words, your progress won’t be transferable to other platforms.

The editors at Windows Central believe that Microsoft may use the account linking requirement as a sort of Trojan horse to “totally transform PlayStation into an Xbox with blue attributes.”

The PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 will go on sale on April 29, priced at $60 for the standard edition, $80 for the deluxe edition, and $100 for the premium edition (with access to the game starting April 25). The game will be released digitally only, with no plans for a retail release.
