The VideoCardz portal writes that AMD held a closed briefing for journalists this week, where it shared official performance figures for the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards.

Before diving into the performance data of the new products, it should be clarified that, according to AMD itself, at the time of the latest tests of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, the company did not have GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards on hand for comparison, so it is not included in the comparison table below. Perhaps, before February 28, AMD will be able to get hold of the extremely scarce GeForce 50-series cards and conduct new tests.

At the same time, AMD confirmed that its Radeon RX 9070 series graphics cards will compete with the GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 models and offer decent performance against the RTX 50-series cards, although the company did not go into any details here. The official information that gamers have been waiting for: the Radeon RX 9070 XT will be on average 42% faster than the Radeon RX 7900 GRE model.

In addition to the gaming tests with raster graphics, the table below presents the performance results with ray tracing (RT). Officially, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is significantly faster than the RX 7900 GRE. The difference in performance between the cards is so great that you wonder why AMD even compared them? The Radeon RX 7900 GRE, based on the RDNA 3 architecture, is equipped with 16 GB of memory. The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 cards will receive the same amount of memory. Perhaps this was the main reason for the direct comparison. It can also be assumed that the RX 9070 XT will perform in the same price range as its predecessor. However, this will become known at the time of the official announcement.

AMD has conducted more than 30 gaming tests of the new cards. According to their results, in games with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 and “ultra” quality settings, the RX 9070 XT is up to 38% faster than the RX 7900 GRE; with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels and “ultra” quality settings, the new model is up to 42% faster than the RX 7900 GRE. Also, the RX 9070 XT at a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels and “maximum” quality settings is up to 51% faster than the RX 6900 XT.

The Radeon RX 9070 is up to 21% faster in games at 2560×1440 with “ultra” settings, up to 21% faster at 3840×2160 under the same conditions, and up to 38% faster than the RX 6800 XT at 3840×2160 with “maximum” quality settings.

Below is a table showing the performance differences between the new cards in games without ray tracing and with ray tracing compared to the RX 7900 GRE. Unlike Nvidia, AMD focuses on pure (raster) and RT performance in its tests, rather than performance with frame generators or upscalers.

Based on the data disclosed, Reddit users have plotted the average performance of the new cards at 4K resolution against a full list of competitors. To calculate the relative performance of the cards, they used data from tests conducted by the YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed.

AMD will introduce new Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards on February 28.
