Although more than two years have passed since the release of God of War Ragnarok, the developers from Santa Monica Studio are in no hurry to lift the veil of secrecy over the future of the series. Trusted insider Tom Henderson told what players can expect.

In late January, leaker Daniel Richtman, aka DanielRPK, shared with his Patreon audience (paid subscription required) that the new game would take Kratos to Ancient Egypt.

Let us recall that the Egyptian setting was considered by the developers for the 2018 reboot. “Almost half” of the Santa Monica Studio team advocated for this option, and the plot would revolve around “pharaohs and the incarnation of gods on Earth.”

Having proven his worth with a number of confirmed leaks, Henderson debunked these rumors in a recent episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. According to him, the events of the next God of War will once again unfold in Kratos’ homeland – Greece.

This new Greek God of War will allegedly show a younger Kratos than he is presented in the Scandinavian duology, and the main theme will be his relationship with his father (the god Zeus).

The end of Kratos’ relationship with Zeus was reached at the end of God of War 3

Henderson added that he has not yet been able to independently verify this information. The insider also allowed for the release of re-releases of the games of the original trilogy, rumors of which have been circulating in recent years.

God of War Ragnarok debuted on November 9, 2022 on PS4 and PS5, and reached PC (Steam, Epic Game Store) on September 19, 2024. The game marked the end of Kratos’ Scandinavian adventures and sold over 15 million copies.
