The Japanese SoftBank holding, according to Bloomberg, is close to the conclusion of an agreement on the acquisition of a startup AMPERE Computing, which specializes in the development of multi -core server processors with ARM architecture. It is claimed that the transaction may be announced in the near future.

Rumors about the possible sale of Ampere appeared in September last year, when it became known that the startup was considering various options for business development. Earlier, the company refused to conduct the initial public placement of shares (IPO). It was later reported that Oracle, which owns 29% of AMPERE shares, may gain full control over this developer. And at the beginning of 2025, the network sources extended the information that the interest in Ampere showed SoftBank holding along with the British company ARM, in which it owns a share of 90%.

And now it is said that negotiations between SoftBank and Ampere are at an “advanced stage”. Within the framework of a possible transaction, AmPere may receive an estimate of $ 6.5 billion. However, the final decision on the sale of Stratap has not yet been made. Representatives of AmPere, ARM and SoftBank refused to comment. It is noted that Ampeere was estimated at more than $ 8 billion in the framework of the alleged minoritarian investments by SoftBank in 2021, but since then the chip market has become more competitive.

Meanwhile, SoftBank itself is ready to invest $ 19 billion in the Stargate megaproject-a joint venture with OpenAi and Oracle for the development of II infrastructure in the United States. In addition, SoftBank intends to invest from $ 15 billion to $ 25 billion in Openai. At the same time, the Japanese holding is trying to attract Apollo Global and Brookfield investment companies for further financing of the Stargate project, which is planned to send $ 500 billion for the implementation of which in total.
