The Facebook✴ administration suddenly began to block publications, which affect the Linux theme, as well as sites dedicated to the family of popular free OS. It comes to the ban on posting publications on Linux topics and blocking accounts. The first to the strange actions of the largest social network was the attention of the Distrowatch resource.

«The developers of Facebook’s domestic policy decided that Linux is malicious software, and marked the Linux communities as “security threats”, ”says the message on the Distrowatch website. The ban entered into force on January 19: the blocking or restrictions on the publication are scored records that mention Distrowatch and Linux – the Facebook✴ administration refers to the “community standards”. Although the posts with the mention only Linux are not always removed immediately.

The Distrownch Distrowatch administration tried to appeal the measure adopted in accordance with the “community standards”, but the Facebook representative said that this is not a mistake, and the topics related to Linux would remain in the filter according to the cybersecurity criterion. Subsequently, the account of the site itself was also blocked. The actions of the platform administration meets bewilderment with a fair amount of irony among its users: a significant part of the infrastructure of Facebook✴ itself works on Linux, the social network often publishes vacancies of Linux developers. Distrowatch continues to hope that all this is some kind of misunderstanding, and the Facebook administration will soon change his mind and remove the misfortunes imposed because of this.
