Microsoft is preparing to show id Software’s shooter Doom: The Dark Ages at the upcoming Developer_Direct show, but it seems that the main surprise of the presentation of the hotly anticipated game has become known ahead of time.
A user of the ResetEra forum under the pseudonym Alexzan noticed that the famous French gaming site Gamekult published material on Doom: The Dark Ages from Developer_Direct ahead of time.
The article itself is no longer available for viewing (apparently, it was quickly hidden), but the title and first paragraph of the material can still be seen in the RSS feed. It looks like Developer_Direct is announcing the release date for Doom: The Dark Ages.
Officially, Doom: The Dark Ages is announced for 2025, but insiders eXtas1s and Nate the Hate (aka NateDrake) recently independently reported that the game will be released during May.
According to an early Gamekult article, this is indeed true: “Doom: The Dark Ages will destroy the legions of hell on May 15, 2025.” Journalists called the game “as subtle as a nail in the throat” (in a good way).
The events of Doom: The Dark Ages will unfold before Doom (2016). They promise a backstory for the Doom Slayer, a plot of “epic proportions,” a controlled combat robot, a mechanical dragon, and no multiplayer.
Doom: The Dark Ages is being created for PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as Game Pass. The Developer_Direct presentation will take place on January 23 (starts at 21:00 Moscow time).
