DJI has introduced a new family of O4 Air action cameras for FPV drones. The O4 Air Unit has a claimed weight of 8.2g with “unrivaled first-person view quality.” The cameras can be mounted on any drone, even the smallest ones, providing cinematic quality aerial footage.
Currently, the family of cameras is represented by two models: O4 Air Unit and O4 Air Unit Pro. They are compatible with a range of DJI remotes and headsets, such as the DJI 2, 3, 3N and Integra goggles and the FPV 2 and 3 remotes.
The O4 Air Unit camera is equipped with a 1/2-inch image sensor with the ability to shoot up to 4K at 60 frames per second. The O4 Air Unit Pro camera has a 1/1.3-inch image sensor capable of recording video at 4K resolution at 120fps. In addition to better resolution, the O4 Air Unit Pro also supports 10-bit D-Log M color mode (which makes details in highlights and shadows clearer) and an ultra-wide 155° field of view.
The transmitter capabilities of both cameras are different. The O4 Air Unit camera transmits video with a delay of no more than 20 ms over a range of up to 10 km. The O4 Air Unit Pro camera supports communication with low latency (no more than 15 ms) at a range of up to 15 km. The system also independently selects the most stable transmission frequency at each moment, which allows you to maintain communication without failures even in difficult conditions, for example, in the mountains or indoors.
It should also be added that both new cameras support a special racing mode, which allows up to eight FPV drones with cameras to compete simultaneously without creating cross-talk or increasing latency.
Both cameras use H.265 video encoding, supporting high frame rate transmission and 1080p/100fps resolution, providing clear and smooth images in real time, regardless of flight speed or surrounding environment. Picture stability is ensured by RockSteady mode with Gyroflow software. There are settings for displaying images on glasses. MicroSD cards are used to expand the camera memory.
When ordering new cameras on the DJI website, the cost of the O4 Air Unit will start from 115 €, and the older O4 Air Unit Pro will start from 249 €. In addition to the cameras, the delivery package includes a transmitting module and an antenna. The Pro camera uses two antennas.
