Surrounded by rumors, an updated version of the cult role-playing game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion from Bethesda Game Studios may soon emerge from the shadows. Spanish insider eXtas1s reports this.
Let us remind you that rumors about a remaster/remake of Oblivion appeared last summer at the suggestion of an alleged former employee of the Paris branch of the Virtuos studio, and subsequently the re-release appeared in Microsoft court documents.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, eXtas1s confirmed Bethesda’s plans for a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and assured that the release of the updated version is planned for 2025.
As for the timing of the announcement, eXtas1s admitted the presentation of the modernized The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as part of the yet unconfirmed January Developer_Direct presentation from Microsoft.
The Verge’s senior editor Tom Warren recently spoke about the anticipation of the Xbox reveal in January. According to eXtas1s, the show will take place in the second half of the month and will include the May release date of the shooter Doom: The Dark Ages.
It was previously reported that the modernized The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is based on Unreal Engine 5 – it is used for new graphics, and the original Gamebryo engine is responsible for gameplay and physics.
Meanwhile, modders from TESRenewal are preparing for release in 2025 their remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Skyblivion on the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim engine. The mod will be free, but will require legal copies of both games.
