One Reddit user boasted that he managed to run Windows 11 for Arm on his Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro smartphone. Most of the functions worked as normal, although for the smartphone this test turned out to be at the limit of its capabilities – it began to get very hot, and the battery began to drain its charge faster.
Among the serious problems with Windows 11 on Poco X3 Pro with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 chip, the enthusiast noted failures in touch control on the right side of the screen, as well as heating up to 48 ° C, which is uncomfortable for the phone. Otherwise, the system behaved quite adequately: it recognized a screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a mouse with Bluetooth.
The experimenter also managed to run third-party software: he prepared animation in the Blender 3.6 LTS editor, and also played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the updated Valve Source engine with a frequency of 30 frames per second. True, Counter-Strike 2 failed to launch on Source 2.
The experiment was successful, likely due to the fact that the Windows on Arm project is so far primarily optimized for Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. That is, the launch of the system on phones with Snapdragon 800 processors should be successful, but on older Snapdragons it’s unlikely. The device adequately coped with browsing web pages under Windows 11, but virtualization functions not intended for phones turned out to be inoperative – an attempt to install the Windows Subsystem of Linux failed.
