Publisher Kalypso Media and developers from the German Claymore Game Studios promised until recently that the tactical strategy Commandos: Origins would be released in 2024, but in the end they decided to postpone it.
As it has become known, Commandos: Origins is now planned to be released in March 2024 simultaneously on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, EGS), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, as well as on the Game Pass service.
The team was prompted to postpone the release by feedback from the closed beta and the demo version released in October, which was criticized at launch for poor optimization, degradation of gameplay, low-quality voice acting and other shortcomings.
The additional time will be used to improve Commandos: Origins in nine areas:
- Optimization will be increased;
- AI behavior will be improved;
- The voice acting is finalized – a temporary version is present in the demo;
- The controls will be made more intuitive and an option to reassign keys will be added;
- The loot system will be updated – items picked up from killed/knocked out enemies will be directly available to the selected commando fighter through the skill menu;
- Integrate the ability to deal with enemies in non-lethal ways;
- The composer of the previous parts, Mateo Pascual, will not be involved in the project – the game’s soundtrack should combine tradition and innovation;
- In the final game the maps will be more open and expansive than in the demo;
- The interface will not change at its core, but the team has taken into account many of the players’ suggestions on this issue.
The developers thanked players for their enthusiasm and “incredibly helpful” feedback. Every suggestion, criticism and kind word “helps us shape Commandos: Origins into something truly special.”
«Your support and dedication means the world to us and is a daily reminder of why this journey is so important… Together we are making a game that respects the legacy of the series and welcomes a new generation of players,” the authors say.
