CD Projekt co-head Michał Nowakowski, as part of the Polish company’s recent financial report, commented on the live-action film project based on Cyberpunk 2077, confirmed a year ago.
Let us remember that at the announcement, the joint project with the media company Anonymous Content (“True Detective”, “The Revenant”) was at an early stage of development, did not have a format (film, series or anything else) and even a scriptwriter.
According to Novakovsky, the Cyberpunk 2077 film is still at the concept development stage, but has moved further than it was last fall. Within a year, the project will begin to be offered to potential distributors.
CD Projekt also confirmed that it is financing a live-action film project based on Cyberpunk 2077, but does not intend to pay for the entire production, including upcoming filming.
In addition to the film adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, a new animation project is currently in production. It is being created by the Netflix Animation team in close collaboration with CD Projekt Red.
Meanwhile, total sales of Cyberpunk 2077 exceeded 30 million copies, and the Phantom Liberty add-on was purchased more than 8 million times. According to CD Projekt, both the main game and the add-on are performing “very well” so far.
In addition, 64 of CD Projekt Red’s 650 employees are currently working on Orion, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The team continues to ramp up development and lay the foundation for the future game.
