The 2K launcher, through which the American publisher’s games (BioShock, Civilization, Mafia, XCOM and others series) were opened on PC, had been annoying gamers for years, but in the end the company decided to completely abandon the launcher.
In addition, on November 25, 2K released an update for its games on Steam, which was supposed to permanently erase the launcher. The 2KLauncher folder was replaced with the text file 2kLauncherRemoved.txt – it can be deleted.
In the case of XCOM 2 and XCOM: Chimera Squad, the 2K launcher had a mod support feature, so separate instructions were prepared for both games. They also released their own guide for the collection Mafia: Trilogy.
2K assures that removing the launcher will not affect save files in games or access to them, as well as gamers who launched the publisher’s products bypassing the program (the command used for this will now be optional).
Members of the Reddit and ResetEra forums greeted the news of the removal of the launcher from 2K games on PC with delight. “Evil has been defeated,” declared Miker. Now gamers are hoping that Rockstar, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts will follow 2K’s lead.
