Developers from the Cypriot studio Unfrozen talked about “Arena” – an additional mode for their upcoming tactical strategy Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era. In a recent blog post, the authors admitted that the new set of rules was added after receiving numerous requests from the community. It first appeared in the fifth part and was then called “Duel”.
In the announced mode, gamers are asked to choose one of three heroes, select skills, artifacts, spells and an army for him. It will take about five minutes to create the entire build, after which you will have access to a battle with another player or an AI opponent.
The Unfrozen team pays a lot of attention to balance when developing Arena. For example, specialist heroes will have an increased chance of acquiring skills that are ideal for them, and mages will always start the game with a basic spell.
«We made sure that the draft was fair: if you get a rare artifact, your opponent will be offered an equally powerful one, and both players are offered artifacts of the same rarity. […] And, of course, the same applies to creatures!” – this is how the developers describe the key principle of creating equal conditions for the warring parties in the “Arena”.
Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will appear on Steam Early Access in early 2025. The launch version will contain the first act of the campaign and will boast the presence of all key gameplay mechanics.
