The Unicode Consortium, which is responsible for the standard set of emoticons, presented the next annual addition to the collection, which includes 164 new emoji, nine of which had no analogues in previous sets. Emoji 17.0 will be available on devices and apps within a year or two.
The new emoji pack images include:
- «Distorted face – a somewhat convex, overstressed character;
- «Fight cloud – this is how cartoons and comics depict a fight that is hidden by smoke with stars;
- Ballerina – will be available in five standard additional skin colors;
- Apple core;
- Killer whale;
- «“furry creature” – also known as Yeti, Bigfoot or “Bigfoot”;
- Trombone;
- Rockfall;
- Treasure chest.
The rest of the emoticons are variations of existing ones – sketches with new skin colors have been added, and for emoticons with two characters, options with the same and different skin colors in pairs will be available. The Unicode Consortium will continue to consult on the proposed designs, and the final version of the Unicode 17.0 and Emoji 17.0 sets will not be approved until September 2025.
