The YouTube video service has started testing the function of creating song remixes using AI. Currently, this feature can be used by creators living in the United States selected by YouTube as part of its testing group.

To create a remix, a user must select a song from a suggested list of music tracks from YouTube’s partner labels, then select the “Change Track Style” option and provide a description of how they would like to change the track’s style. After this, a 30-second piece of music will be generated using AI, which the creator can use in his short videos.
Google noted on the support page that the remixed sound bite will be “attributed” to the original song via Short and the Shorts audio summary page. In addition, it will also have a corresponding label indicating that the track has been altered by AI.
Last year, YouTube began testing a Dream Track song creation feature using generative AI and vocals from famous artists. To create a track, you just need to provide a text description of the future song or simply sing the tune. The Dream Track feature became available for individual creator testing in November 2023 and is powered by Deepmind’s Lyrica music generation model. To avoid facing potential copyright infringement lawsuits, YouTube announced plans last August to compensate artists and copyright holders for the use of their work in AI features. To this end, the company has agreed to partner with Universal Music Group to develop a model for paying rights holders.
