While Mass Effect remains one of Electronic Arts’ most important franchises, the publisher has been reluctant to reveal its successes. Sales data for the BioWare sci-fi series was found in the resume of a former studio employee.
Let us remember that the last time Electronic Arts reported on the results of Mass Effect was more than 10 years ago – by July 2014, sales of the trilogy exceeded 14 million copies. Mass Effect: Andromeda (2017) performed “very well,” according to EA.
BioWare’s former director of marketing and global brand management, Jarrett Lee, indicated in his LinkedIn profile that total sales of Mass Effect have exceeded 25 million copies.
Enthusiast Timur222, who paid attention to Lee’s resume, notes that the indicator is relevant as of 2018, when the specialist left BioWare after almost 11 years of work.
Thus, the Mass Effect result announced by Lee does not include sales of the main games in the series over the past six years, as well as the Mass Effect Legendary Edition collection released in 2021.
The collection of remasters of the three Mass Effects “significantly” exceeded Electronic Arts’ expectations, but the publisher did not name specific indicators. Fans suggest that by now sales of games in the series could reach 30 million copies.
It was previously reported that following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare “entirely” switched to the new Mass Effect, which was announced in December 2020. Last summer the game was still in pre-production.
