The Canadian Department of Justice announced the arrest of Alexander “Connor” Moucka at the request of the US government. At a court hearing on October 30, his case was adjourned until November 5, 2024. Mooka is suspected of stealing information from about 165 companies using Snowflake cloud data warehouses.
In May, Ticketmaster’s parent company Live Nation said it suffered a massive data breach in which stolen customer information was posted for sale on hacker forums.
Subsequently, other hacks were reported at companies that used Snowflake’s cloud storage services, including AT&T, Santander Bank, Advanced Auto Parts and subsidiary Lending Tree Quote Wizard. As a result of illegal actions, millions of clients of these companies suffered.
An investigation by Google subsidiary Mandiant found that a “financially motivated threat actor” stole a “significant amount of data” from approximately 165 Snowflake customers using compromised login credentials. No evidence was found that Snowflake itself was hacked.
