London-based studio poncle’s gothic survival action roguelike Vampire Survivors owes a lot to the Castlevania series, and the upcoming addition to the project will pay tribute to Konami’s vampire franchise.
The new addon is called Ode to Castlevania and is positioned as the largest addition to Vampire Survivors in its entire history. This is reflected in the price: $4 (with $5 for the main game) versus $2 and $2.5 for previous DLCs.
Such a high price compared to previous DLCs in poncle was explained by the size of Ode to Castlevania (the addition is “simply huge”). At the same time, the authors tried to ensure that the expansion “was affordable for as many players as possible.”
«Vampire Survivors has come a long way in its noble hunt, and now, having joined forces with the Belmont family, it has finally become closer than ever… to a vampire. Potentially, at least,” the authors intrigue.
When creating the add-on, the developers were guided by the principle of “more of everything.” Some of the content was shown in the announcement trailer (attached above). What’s included in Ode to Castlevania:
- More than 20 characters – including the Belmonts (Simon, Richter, Trevor, Sonya), Belnade (Sifah, Yoko, Charlotte Olin, Maria Renard) and other heroes (Jonathan Morris, Shanoa, Eric Lecard);
- Over 40 new types of weapons (basic versions and upgrades) – including magic ones like Alucard’s sword or his spear (or shield), eight new whips, spells, projectiles and glyphs;
- One new location, which “in its size and diversity” cannot be compared with any other in the game;
- 30+ new music, including an “absurd number of remixes of Castlevania tracks”;
- There’s nothing new for the “Adventures” mode – it contains “both a wagon and a small cart” content.
Ode to Castlevania will be released on October 31 on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. It is noteworthy that this is the second DLC for a game based on Konami franchises – the previous one was Operation Guns based on Contra.
Update 1.12 will be released along with the new addon for Vampire Survivors. It will include a redesigned music selection interface, the ability to exclude content sets in the Collection menu, a map zoom option, and so on.
