AMD will introduce the Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming processor in a few days. This will be the first Granite Ridge chip with an additional 64 MB of 3D V-Cache. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D or its early engineering versions are already in the hands of some enthusiasts. One of them shared the results of the first tests of the new product on the AnandTech forum.

From earlier reports, we know that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D runs at up to 5.2 GHz on all cores simultaneously. However, recent information reports that the chip is capable of operating at a higher frequency – between 5.6 and 5.7 GHz when using AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) automatic overclocking feature.

In published screenshots with test results, the name of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor is hidden. Most likely, this is not a consumer version of the chip, but an engineering sample. However, the CPU-Z window clearly shows that the chip has 96 MB L3 cache (32 MB L3 + 64 MB 3D V-Cache) and runs at 5643 MHz. The effective processor frequency in the Cinebench R23 test (data from the BenchMate monitoring application) is 5687.53 MHz. Let us remind you that on all cores simultaneously the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is capable of operating at a frequency of 5.0 GHz.

An enthusiast who owns the processor reports that high frequencies were achieved by using the PBO function, changing the voltage (Offset) and adjusting the BCLK bus frequency.

Under these conditions, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D scored 2261 points in the single-core Cinebench R23 test. The multi-core performance of the chip in the same test is rated at 25,258 points. For comparison, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D with PBO enabled usually scores 18-19 thousand points in the multi-core test of the same benchmark.

The regular Ryzen 7 9800X with PBO shows a result of 23,325 points. Thus, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is indeed faster than the specified chip models. In the Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail gaming benchmark (standard settings), the system with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor scored 62,360 points. However, it is unknown what kind of video card was used.
