Google has released the Android 15 operating system. Pixel branded smartphones were the first to receive it. The new platform brings new privacy features, improvements for foldable devices and tablets, and a theft locking feature, including one powered by artificial intelligence.
One of the key innovations in Android 15 is the ability to create a “private space” for applications that the user wants to hide from other people who have access to their device, The Verge reports. Such applications could be social networks, dating platforms or banking services. Additional authentication will be required to access them. At the same time, the very fact of the application’s existence on the phone can be hidden.
For foldable devices and tablets, Android 15 now provides the ability to pin and unpin the taskbar. This is done for faster access to applications. In addition, you can combine two frequently used applications in parallel into one icon and launch them simultaneously with one click.
Regardless of Android version, many devices will feature Theft Detection Lock, which will lock the phone automatically if it detects (using artificial intelligence) that it has been stolen. For example, if the smartphone detects that it has been snatched from the user’s hands. There will also be a Remote Lock feature that will help the device owner lock it from another Android using a phone number and a security check. Google says most devices running Android 10 and later will also get these features, and some users already have them.
Additionally, the company has started rolling out a new update for the Pixel as part of the October Pixel Feature Drop. It includes new features like Night Sight mode for Instagram✴, which lets you take better photos in low light, and advanced controls for the Audio Magic Eraser tool. Over the next few weeks, Google will also add the ability to move files from a Pixel tablet to a Pixel smartphone simply by placing the devices next to each other.
As a reminder, the new Android 15 operating system was launched last month through the Android Open Source Project, but at that time was not yet available on Pixel smartphones and tablets and other Android devices. A detailed list of all Android 15 features is available on Google’s official website.
