MediaTek has officially unveiled its new generation flagship single-chip platform, the Dimensity 9400. The new chip is actually the most powerful processor for Android smartphones at the moment. The new product is distinguished by evolutionary improvements in technical characteristics, as well as several promising innovations. And, of course, not without powerful AI capabilities.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is manufactured using an improved 3nm process technology, which, as the developer promises, provides an increase in its energy efficiency by 40% compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300 model. The processor includes a single Arm Cortex-X925 core with a clock frequency of 3.65 GHz, three Cortex-X4 and four Cortex-A720. As you can see, there are no so-called “small” Arm cores here at all – only “large” performance cores. Thanks to this configuration, it was possible to increase performance by 35% in single-core mode and by 28% in multi-core mode. The platform includes a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU with increased cache size (double D2 and 050% L3 cache), as well as 40% increased ray tracing performance.
MediaTek’s proprietary neural processing unit (NPU), or artificial intelligence accelerator, supports local training of lightweight models and offers “up to 80% improved query performance for large language models.” Video generation using AI is supported; there is a framework aimed at developers for creating AI agents; there is support for the latest AI models and related technologies.
The new chip supports ultra-fast LPDDR5X-10667 RAM, as well as UFS 4.0 flash drives. The Imagiq 1090 signal processor is responsible for working with the cameras, which supports cameras with a resolution of up to 320 MP, 8K video shooting at 60 FPS and long-term (up to 3 hours) 4K video shooting at 60 FPS, as well as 100x zoom with AI enhancement pictures. The built-in 5G modem will provide speeds of up to 7 Gbps, and the Wi-Fi 7 model will provide speeds of up to 7.3 Gbps.
Special mention is made of support for smartphones with a tricuspid design. Devices with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor will hit the market in the fourth quarter, the developer promised – most often its chips will debut on models from Chinese brands such as Vivo and Oppo.
