The author of the Half-Life: Year of the Dragon mod, which replaces Gordon Freeman in the legendary Valve shooter with the dragon Spyro from the game series of the same name, has returned with a new creation, this time combining the worlds of Doom and Quake.
«Run a Quake campaign as Doomguy. It’s that simple!”, says modder Magic Nipples, slightly downplaying his merits, in the description of Duake on the ModDB website.
In addition, with the Doom Slayer, the modder transferred his entire arsenal and the interface familiar from the original Doom in two versions (classic and compact from Doom 64) into the first Quake.
The author of Duake also fully adapted Doomguy to the aiming systems (including the vertical axis, which was not present in Doom) and movement from another cult shooter by id Software.
As if that weren’t enough, the Duake mod brought a number of optional changes to Quake, such as reworking (lighting, water, positioning and enemy composition) of the first episode, its final boss and enemy attack sets, as well as new secrets.
Some of these changes were demonstrated in a minute and a half gameplay trailer for Duake. Judging by the comments under the video, many Doom and Quake fans have been waiting for this particular mod for years.
You can download the starting version of Duake from the page on the ModDB website. In addition, the mod’s source code is publicly available on GitHub. After the release, the developer promises further improvements (which ones exactly are unclear).
