As the short video service TikTok was blocked in the United States on January 19, other ByteDance apps were also banned, including the collectible card game Marvel Snap from the Second Dinner studio. However, the situation began to improve.
Let us remind you that access to TikTok in the United States was restored 12 hours after the blocking, while users of Marvel Snap (the game is published by the TikTok-owned company Nuverse) had to wait more than a day.
On the morning of January 21, Second Dinner reported that Marvel Snap had resumed operations in the United States, although the game had not yet returned to the App Store or Play Store. In-app purchases are also not yet functional (unlike the browser store).
Second Dinner also intends to compensate users for time-limited content (such as rewards and missions) lost as a result of the game’s unavailability. Details of the initiative will be shared later.
«To ensure this NEVER happens again, we are working to strengthen our infrastructure and partner with a new publisher. This is the beginning of a new era for Marvel Snap,” Second Dinner assured.
Meanwhile, through the efforts of US President Donald Trump, the ban on TikTok in the US was delayed for 75 days, but the service may still be illegal if ByteDance management does not make a deal with the American side.
Marvel Snap was released in October 2022 and is distributed as a shareware model on PC (Steam), iOS and Android. By the beginning of 2024, the game had earned more than $200 million, and the number of downloads exceeded 22 million.
