Social network X is eager to capitalize on the removal of ByteDance apps like TikTok and Lemon8 from US online stores by broadcasting vertical video announcements to users in the United States.
A video tab has been added to the bottom bar of the X app for US users so they can quickly access video content on the platform. “Today, a new video viewing tool will be available to users in the United States,” the company said in a statement.
X users were already able to play short videos by pressing the Video button in the timeline and scrolling up. Now a special section has been created for these videos.
At the same time, this is not the first time that the company has tried to allocate a separate section for video. Previously, as part of the application’s reverse engineering, it offered viewing a multimedia tab for videos, but now this addition has been officially introduced, TechCrunch writes. The resource noted that X has recently been paying special attention to experiments with media content. Last year, the company launched a separate TV app to show videos from different organizations and creators.
While TikTok has faced problems in the US, social networks are trying to take advantage of the uncertainty with its parent company ByteDance’s services in the United States. Meta✴ has announced video editing app Edits to compete with ByteDance’s CapCut. X’s competitor, microblogging service and social network Bluesky, has launched a custom feed for vertical videos.
