AMD delayed the launch of Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT until March

AMD has shared the latest information about the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT video cards. The manufacturer will release them no earlier than March this year. Corporate Vice President, General Manager of AMD Client Processors and Radeon Graphics Division David McAfee announced this on his page on the X social network. McAfee’s statement effectively puts an end to rumors that AMD will release video cards this week.

It looks like AMD has changed its plans. According to unconfirmed information, the new generation Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT video cards based on RDNA 4 architecture were supposed to go on sale this month. However, Nvidia’s announcement of the release of its GeForce RTX 5070 video cards in February could ultimately influence AMD’s decision to delay the launch of its new products.

«The hardware and software of the Radeon 9000 series graphics cards looks great, and we expect a wide range of graphics cards available around the world. I can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the new cards when they hit stores in March,” McAfee said on his X page.

McAfee’s statement caused a strong reaction among the gaming community. It is known that retailers around the world began receiving stocks of new video cards in early January. This was indicated by photographs from various stores that appeared on the Internet. At the same time, some observers even claimed that they received the cards at the end of December. All this pointed to the imminent launch of new products. It’s hard to remember a situation where new cards without official drivers ended up in the hands of reviewers two and a half months before their release.

To date, AMD has announced only two video cards in the new series – Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. However, the manufacturer has not yet officially confirmed their characteristics. For example, it is still unknown which graphics processor is used at their core. Rumors claim that we are talking about different modifications of Navi 48. The younger card has a smaller chip and is equipped with fewer execution units. Thanks to AMD partners, all we know at the moment is that both cards received 16 GB of GDDR6 memory.

There is also a positive side to the delay in the release of new Radeon video cards. When new products do appear on store shelves, they will not be in short supply, unlike the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, which are predicted to have low availability at the start of sales.
