TikTok stopped working in the US prematurely

Short video service TikTok has stopped working in the United States. This happened after months of proceedings and attempts by the American government to force the owner of the platform, the Chinese company ByteDance, to sell the business under the pretext of ensuring national security. The service stopped working shortly before the deadline set by the US Supreme Court, which expires on January 19.

According to reports, the TikTok app stopped working on the evening of January 18, as evidenced by numerous comments from users of the platform on other social networks such as X. When trying to launch the TikTok app in the United States, a message appears saying that the service has suspended operation, which is consistent with the issued previous injunction.

«A law has been passed in the US to ban TikTok. Unfortunately, this means you won’t be able to use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has made it clear that he will work with us on a solution to rebuild TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned for updates,” TikTok said in the notice.

Users note that before the blocking, the service did not offer to save previously downloaded videos. At the same time, some content creators said that they were just saving their videos when the application began to malfunction, and later stopped opening altogether.
