The first “gameplay” of Virtua Fighter 6 turned out to be an exact copy of the battle scene from the movie “Dragons Forever” with Jackie Chan

The concept video for the new fighting game in the Virtua Fighter series, which debuted at CES 2025, impressed with the smooth animation and detailed choreography of the fighters, although some seemed familiar. And for good reason.

Let’s remember that in a 35-second video published on the engine of the future game, two versions of Akira Yuki – one of the most prominent fighters in the history of Virtua Fighter – clashed in an irreconcilable battle in a highly detailed arena.

As demonstrated by YouTuber VCDECIDE, the exchange of blows between the Akiras shown in the Virtua Fighter concept video is an almost exact copy of the fight scene from the film almost 37 years ago.

It seems that the developers from the Japanese Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio turned out to be fans of the work of Jackie Chan, since we are talking about the action comedy film “Dragons Forever” (1988) with the participation of the famous Hong Kong actor.

In the aforementioned scene, Jackie Chan’s character encounters a fighter in a factory, played by American kickboxer Benjamin Urquidez. A comparison of the two battle sequences can be seen in the VCDECIDE video below.

The similarities are obvious from the first seconds – not only in the way the fighters throw punches and kicks, but also in how the fight plays out as a whole. Some moments are recreated 1 to 1, like the episode when Jackie Chan’s character is thrown onto a stack of boxes.

The new Virtua Fighter was presented in December at The Game Awards 2024 and currently has no release date or target platforms. The fighting game should become the sixth numbered game in the series – the fifth part debuted 19 years ago.
