Cybercriminals often include extortionists who demand ransom for valuable information stolen from companies. Apparently, AMD suffered a similar attack some time ago, as its representatives told Bloomberg that they were conducting an investigation into the incident.

The Intelbroker group on the BreachForums resource recently posted examples of information allegedly stolen from AMD. The sample included both presentations related to the company’s future products, as well as financial documentation and personal data of its clients. AMD representatives explained that they are interacting with law enforcement agencies and the provider on whose hosting the compromised information was stored.

Against this background, AMD shares even managed to fall in price by 2.4% on Tuesday, although shares of other participants in the semiconductor market showed positive exchange rate dynamics. It is not specified what demands the attackers made to AMD. In principle, for now we can only talk about some kind of reputational damage, since the company’s inability to protect information about clients negatively affects the degree of their trust.
