Founded by the ex-developers of Age of Empires, Borderlands and BioShock, the American Stray Kite Studios presented a new project – a fantasy tactical real-time roglite Wartorn. The announcement was accompanied by a gameplay trailer.
The events of Wartorn will unfold on the war-torn islands of Talaur, which two elf sisters Yara and Elani will have to cross to get to the ancient fortress of their people.
As they travel through the world of Wartorn, players will recruit squads of fantasy creatures (elves, goblins, demons, foresters, etc.) into the caravan, as well as find lost members of their family (reveal the plot and give bonuses).
The characteristics and abilities of each unit open up new strategies on the battlefield. Proper positioning, combinations of fighters and skills will allow you to win the battle, and defeat will hit the morale of the caravan (nowhere without it).
Battles take place in real time and involve systemic interactions of elemental elements: water extinguishes fire and heals plant units, resin ignites flames, lightning travels through water, and so on.
According to the authors, a mixture of strategy and roglite elements will result in deep replayability. Each run will feel new thanks to the dynamics of squad management and unpredictable story and gameplay events.
Wartorn will launch in Early Access on Steam and Epic Games Store this spring. The development is led by BioShock lead designer and Borderlands 2 creative director Paul Hellquist.
