Qualcomm develops server processors, a vacancy on the company’s website proved

According to information on the website of the American processor developer Qualcomm, there is a division within its structure responsible for solutions for data centers, and there is currently a vacancy for an information security architecture specialist. Other information from the announcement makes it clear that Qualcomm is interested in creating high-performance server processors.

Typically, these processors should remain very energy efficient, and this indirectly indicates Qualcomm’s use of the usual Arm-compatible architecture. Considering that in the PC segment the company is now promoting the developments of the former Nuvia, albeit encountering legal resistance from Arm, we can assume that these solutions can eventually be adapted to the needs of the server segment. Moreover, the startup Nuvia, at the time of its independence, was developing server processors.

Qualcomm has made attempts to create server processors before, but without apparent success. At the same time, Amazon successfully uses Arm-compatible Graviton processors of its own design in the server infrastructure, and this example could inspire Qualcomm to make a new attempt to try its hand in the server segment. It is possible that Qualcomm will promote the first chips of this class in the base station segment of 5G or 6G generation communication networks, since in this area it controls almost the entire ecosystem, including hardware and software solutions.
