Belgium’s Larian Studios, led by Swen Vincke, is now “fully focused” on its next project after fantasy role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3.
Looking back at the journey Larian Studios has made over almost 30 years and the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Vincke (the manager’s nostalgia was inspired by this video) noted that “the story is not over yet.”
In a statement provided to VideoGamer, Larian Studios said that “Sven and the team’s full attention is focused on their next project,” and the studio itself is preparing to go radio silent for the foreseeable future.
At the moment, Larian is working on two “extremely ambitious RPGs”, which, it seems, will not be released anytime soon. In October, Vincke joked (but immediately took it back) that the studio’s next game would not be released until 2029.
Larian refuses to say what kind of project the studio will release next, but it’s definitely not Baldur’s Gate 4. “It’s not what you think, but it will have the distinctive Larian signature,” Vincke said last spring.
Meanwhile, an eighth major patch is being prepared for Baldur’s Gate 3 – it will be the last major update before the developers “say goodbye to Feirun and go in search of stranger shores.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 left early access on August 3, 2023 on PC (Steam, GOG), and then reached Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The release of the eighth patch is expected in 2025 – stress testing should begin soon.
