Nintendo’s comment was published by the Japanese section of CNET. Accessory maker Genki brought to CES 2025 and demonstrated to the press a mock-up of the Switch 2 console. The Japanese manufacturer stated that “the gaming device that Genki presented at CES as a Nintendo device is unofficial and was not provided to the company by us.” Nintendo also told Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun that the images and video posted by Genki “are not official.”

Earlier, Genki agreed to talk with journalists from the IGN resource and stated that the mockup was modeled after the actual Switch 2, which the company allegedly saw. The model shown is used to make accessories for the future console. A Genki representative said that the company was surprised by the excitement that arose after the demonstration of the prototype – in her opinion, all the information about the device had already been leaked onto the Internet, she did not say or show anything new. Subsequently, however, Genki told Japanese publication Game*Spark that the mockup was made based on a leak, and the actual size of the device is still unknown; Moreover, the company has not seen the real device.

There is already quite a lot of unofficial information about the new generation console, which is still conventionally designated Nintendo Switch 2. The device will support memory cards of 256 and 512 GB. Joy-Con controllers will be attached to the console using magnetic holders; the SL and SR buttons on the new controllers will be larger than on the current ones; on the right there is also a “C” button, the purpose of which is still unknown.

The console will receive 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of built-in storage – the first Nintendo Switch has 4 and 32 GB, respectively. In July 2023, the company also filed a patent application for an AI-powered image scaling system that will help reduce the size of games while still delivering 4K resolution images.

The official announcement of Nintendo Switch 2 is expected before the end of March 2025, and it will go on sale in the new financial year – no earlier than April 2025.
