Wearable AI device Omi that reads minds has been introduced

Unveiled at CES 2025 is the $89 Omi device, which listens to user conversations, extracts useful information from them, and compiles summaries using artificial intelligence. But the main thing is that it reads the thoughts of its owner and knows when he accesses the device.

During the demonstration, the creator of the project, Nik Shevchenko, asked a question “into the void”, without addressing anyone in particular, but mentally chose Omi as the addressee – and received an AI-generated answer on his phone. The gadget counted his brain waves, realized who the user was actually addressing, and executed the command. To perform its task, the device uses only one electrode, but in two years, Mr. Shevchenko believes, Omi will be able not only to determine the addressee of a statement, but to perform more serious tasks – ultimately read and save the user’s thoughts.

In its current form, the gadget is worn on a cord around the neck and, if necessary, attached to the temple. The device constantly listens to the user and helps him make sense of everyday life; The battery life lasts for three days. To run it, you do not need to name any code word, but you can contact Omi directly. It can prepare a summary of the meeting and outline the next steps. During the presentation, the author of the project asked about the Bitcoin quote, and after a few seconds received an answer in the application on his phone. Notifications from the application came quite often and were not always useful, but Mr. Shevchenko attributed this to the preliminary version of the device.

Omi will go on sale in the second quarter of this year. Now the device is used by 5,000 people – the gadget helps them take notes, search for information and perform tasks common to AI assistants. The Omi application store is already in operation, which developers use, for example, to connect to popular external services – 250 applications are available, and the device OS is available as open source. The goal of the Omi project is to create a multifunctional platform that is not limited to just one device or application.
