One would think that in the 15 years that have passed since the announcement of the film adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus, the project of a full-length film based on the sad tale of Fumito Ueda would have been abandoned and forgotten, but no.
Sony’s plans for a film adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus became known in April 2009. In 2014, It and The Flash director Andrés Muschietti joined the project, and nothing has been heard about the film since then.
In a new interview with the Argentine radio station Radio TU, Muschietti commented on the prolonged silence about the film Shadow of the Colossus and assured that the film adaptation is “by no means” abandoned.
«The film [Shadow of the Colossus] has been in the works for 10 years, and now the possibilities for its creation are opening up,” Muschietti said, adding that a script is ready for the adaptation, which he really likes.
At the same time, Muschietti admitted that he still has not managed to get the necessary budget, in his opinion, for the film adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus – the director is counting on $200 million.
Shadow of the Colossus tells the story of the warrior Wander, who, together with his faithful horse Agro, undertakes to defeat 16 gigantic colossi in order to revive the sacrificed girl named Mono.
The original Shadow of the Colossus was developed by Ueda’s studio Team Ico and released in 2005 on PS2. In 2011, the game received a remaster for PS3, and in 2018, a remake for PS4. The Bluepoint Games team was responsible for both.
