The press conference of Nvidia CEO and founder Jensen Huang, which took place in Las Vegas on the sidelines of CES 2025, allowed him to express confidence in Samsung’s ability to solve all the existing problems with the release of HBM series memory chips for Nvidia’s own accelerators. The head of the company expressed confidence that Samsung will cope with this.
«They have to switch to a new design, but they can do it. They work very quickly, devoting a lot of resources to this,” the general director of the first company briefly described the situation with the modification of HBM3E to Nvidia’s needs by Samsung specialists. “They will succeed, there is no doubt about that. I am confident that Samsung will succeed with HBM,” concluded Jensen Huang.
As the largest manufacturer of memory chips overall, Samsung fell behind SK hynix in the HBM3E segment because it was unable to supply Nvidia-compliant chips of this type. It is noteworthy that the optimistic statements of the head of Nvidia regarding the potential of Samsung allowed the latter’s stock price to rise by more than 3%, although on Wednesday morning the company published a not very successful preliminary report for the fourth quarter. In particular, Samsung’s operating profit at the end of the last quarter was approximately 27% below analysts’ expectations, not exceeding $4.5 billion. Revenue of $51.6 billion was slightly below market expectations. Samsung will publish a full report on January 22, but for now the company is able to compensate for not the most outstanding indicators with the optimism of the head of Nvidia in terms of the dynamics of the price of its shares.
