Nvidia confirms path tracing in Doom: The Dark Ages – new footage of id Software’s ambitious shooter

Microsoft and Bethesda Softworks are in no hurry to share new footage and details of the shooter Doom: The Dark Ages from id Software, but Nvidia did it for them at the presentation of DLSS 4 technology at CES 2025.

As noted by users of the ResetEra forum, new footage of Doom: The Dark Ages appeared in the official DLSS 4 trailer from CES 2025, published on Nvidia’s YouTube channel.

The video itself lasts 51 seconds, and 11 of them are devoted to the benefits of DLSS 4 in Doom: The Dark Ages. The excerpt contains footage of the game’s environment and a new look at the Doom Slayer.

In a post accompanying the announcement on its official blog, Nvidia also mentioned that Doom: The Dark Ages is based on the latest version of the id Tech engine and will offer support for both DLSS 4 and path tracing at release.

According to id Software, the arrival of DLSS 4 will usher in a new era of gaming and a historic leap in ray tracing capabilities: “Not only will it improve performance, but also improve graphics in Doom: The Dark Ages.”

Enthusiasts have already cut out a segment with Doom: The Dark Ages from the DLSS 4 trailer

The events of Doom: The Dark Ages will unfold before Doom (2016). They promise a backstory for the Doom Slayer, a plot of “epic proportions,” a controlled combat robot, a mechanical dragon, and no multiplayer.

Doom: The Dark Ages will be released in 2025 on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as directly on Game Pass. The game’s release date is expected to be announced at Microsoft’s yet-to-be-confirmed January Developer_Direct presentation.
