The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has introduced a new standard for active cables – DP80LL (low loss). These cables are UHBR certified and support data rates of up to four UHBR20 lines, i.e. up to 80 Gbps, for an active cable length of up to three meters. This cable specification will be a key feature of the new DisplayPort 2.1b interface, scheduled for release in spring 2025.

VESA notes that DisplayPort 2.1b provides up to three times the cable length for UHBR20 GPU-to-display connections compared to existing certified passive DP80 cables. Certified DP80LL cables are expected to be available within the next few months.
The association will present samples of pre-certified DP80LL cables and demonstrate the capabilities of products based on DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, the highest performance level in the DisplayPort 2.1 specification. In addition, other VESA standards will be shown at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be held in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10.
VESA also says that the development of DisplayPort 2.1b and DP80LL was closely supported by Nvidia to ensure optimal performance and compatibility between Nvidia graphics cards and future DisplayPort 2.1b technologies, including UHBR20 via DP80LL cables.
