HP announced at CES 2025 the Z2 Mini G1a, a compact workstation designed for a variety of tasks including 3D modeling and rendering. It’s not just a compact PC, but a high-performance machine that can handle today’s challenges, such as running large AI language models (LLMs) locally.
The maximum configuration of the HP Z2 Mini G1a is equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 processor, which offers 16 cores and 32 threads, and is also equipped with powerful integrated AMD Radeon 8060S graphics. Featuring a unified memory architecture of up to 128 GB LPDDR5X-8533, the device can allocate up to 96 GB of RAM to the GPU, making it possible to perform demanding tasks. Particular attention is paid to processing and accelerating AI operations. Thus, the built-in neural processor (NPU) provides performance up to 50 TOPS, allowing you to work with advanced workloads directly on the device without the need to resort to cloud services.
The Z2 Mini G1a offers multiple operating systems to choose from, including Windows 11 Pro, Linux (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS), and WSL2 for developers using Linux tools in a Windows environment. This flexibility in choosing an OS allows you to customize the device for specific user tasks.
One of the key features of the new product is its miniature form factor. The 8.55 x 16.8 x 20 cm body allows you to place the device almost anywhere – on a desk, behind a monitor, or under a desk. In addition, the Z2 Mini G1a is ideal for installation in server racks. In particular, a standard 4U case can accommodate up to five such stations.
The mini PC supports up to four displays with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) and is equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology, providing fast and stable data transfer with up to 46 Gbps throughput, even in dense network environments. In addition, the device is certified to work with most independent software vendors and is equipped with HP Wolf Security, which offers multi-layered protection from BIOS to browser. According to the company, this “makes the Z2 Mini G1a a secure solution for sensitive data and mission-critical projects.”
As for data storage, it offers two high-speed NVMe drives with a capacity of up to 8 TB, and for increased reliability and performance you can choose a configuration with RAID support. In addition, the Z2 Mini G1a has a wide range of interfaces, including two Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) ports with a data transfer rate of 40 Gbps, a combo headphone and microphone jack, four USB Type-A ports (two with support for 10 Gbps), one USB Type-C port on the front panel, as well as a number of additional, configurable I/O ports for connecting peripheral components and other equipment in a wide range.
HP also focuses on the environmental friendliness of the product and its energy efficiency. Thus, the Z2 Mini G1a uses up to 60% recycled plastic and 20% recycled steel, and the packaging is made entirely from environmentally friendly materials. The device is EPEAT Gold Climate+ and Energy Star certified for energy efficiency, and a 300W power supply with up to 92% efficiency reduces power consumption even at maximum load (PFC).
The HP Z2 Mini G1a will go on sale sometime in the spring of 2025. The price will be announced closer to the time the mini-PC hits the shelves.
