Asus has introduced the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex motherboard. This is the first motherboard of this series based on the chipset from AMD. Before this, the manufacturer produced only Apex board models based on Intel chipsets. The new product is made in a large E-ATX format and is designed specifically for overclockers. The latter have already managed to set several new world performance records on the board.
Similar to other Apex series motherboards, the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex model is equipped with only two RAM slots. This is done to ensure more stable and efficient (less noise, less delay) signal transmission between RAM and the central processor. Most world performance records, in any case, are set using one or at most two memory sticks.
Asus reported that South Korean overclocker Safedisk has already set several new records on the new motherboard. For example, it overclocked DDR5 RAM to 10,200 MT/s without using extreme cooling. The memory was cooled exclusively by an air cooling system included with the motherboard itself. The Ryzen 5 8500G APU also took part in the experiment.
«Professional overclocker Safedisk has already set eight world records using the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex and AMD Ryzen 9 9950X. But that’s not all. We used a carefully selected 48GB DDR5 RAM kit from G.Skill, ran it on an AMD Ryzen 5 8500G system, and were able to overclock the RAM to 10,200 MT/s using only air cooling,” Asus writes on its official blog. .
The ROG Crosshair X870E Apex motherboard is equipped with an advanced cooling system to ensure maximum performance. It features tall, thick heat sinks connected to an L-shaped heat pipe for efficient heat dissipation. The board received many connectors for connecting additional fans and pumps. And the ROG Memory Fan Kit included in the package provides targeted cooling of memory modules and elements of the board’s VRM power subsystem. At the same time, the metal casing on the front and back of the board provides structural reinforcement and passive cooling.
The board is equipped with two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, operating in an x8/x8 configuration (if both are occupied). It also includes three M.2 PCIe 5.0 slots with screwless fastenings. An additional two PCIe 4.0 slots are provided via a dedicated ROG DIMM.2 expansion card.
The new product supports WiFi 7 2×2 with 320 MHz channels and AI connection optimization using the AI Networking II application, two USB4 ports (40 Gbps), four SATA III (6 Gbps) and eight USB ports with different speeds . For the front panel, the board offers a 20 Gbps USB port with support for Quick Charge 4+ fast charging up to 60 W.
The ROG Crosshair X870E Apex will go on sale in the first quarter of this year. The manufacturer did not disclose the cost of the new product. The company also hinted that this is not the only ROG Crosshair board based on the AMD X870E chipset. The ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme model, also in E-ATX format, is in development. However, the company has not yet provided details about this model.
