AMD Unveils World’s Best Processor for Gamers and Creators – Ryzen 9 9950X3D

AMD has unveiled the “world’s best processor for gamers and creators” – the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which is equipped with 16 Zen 5 cores and optional second-generation 3D V-Cache. At the same time, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D model was announced, which also received an increased cache size, but has only 12 cores, reports Overclock3D.

The new products, like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D introduced in October, are equipped with a second-generation 3D V-Cache cache memory of 64 MB. Unlike the first generation, the new memory is placed under the CCD (Core Complex Die) with the processing cores, and not on top of it, as was the case with previous generations of X3D processors. The older Ryzen 9 9950X3D offers a total of 144 MB of cache memory (L2+L3), and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D offers 140 MB.

The new layout allows for better heat removal from the processor cores, which has a positive effect on the clock speeds of the chips and also opens up opportunities for overclocking. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D has a base clock speed of 4.3 GHz and a maximum boost frequency of 5.7 GHz, which is the same as the regular Ryzen 9 9950X. For comparison, the Ryzen 9 7950X offered frequencies of 4.2 and 5.7 GHz, respectively.

In turn, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D runs at a base frequency of 4.4 GHz, and a maximum boost frequency of 5.5 GHz, which is 100 MHz lower than the regular Ryzen 9 9900X. Both new products support simultaneous multithreading technology (SMT), that is, they offer twice as many threads as computing cores. The TDP level is 120 W for the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 170 W for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

In terms of performance, according to AMD’s tests, the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D outperforms Intel’s latest-generation flagship, the Core Ultra 9 285K, by an impressive 20% in games and 10% in a variety of productivity applications and benchmarks. The maximum difference in games reaches 64% in the case of Watch Dog: Legion, and in applications – 47% in Adobe Photoshop.

When comparing AMD’s new flagship with its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X, the performance increase in games averaged 8%, and in work applications and benchmarks – 10%. All this allows AMD to call the new product the fastest processor in the world for both gaming and content creation.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D processors will go on sale in the first quarter of 2025, that is, before the end of March. AMD has not yet disclosed prices for new products.
