The Actors Guild strike prevented the development of Kojima’s new games – horror OD and spy thriller Physint

Japanese game designer and head of the Kojima Productions studio Hideo Kojima, in a pre-New Year address to subscribers of his personal microblog, spoke about the progress of production of new games.

According to Kojima, in the past year he has been busy developing the courier action game Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Kojima Productions released the second trailer for the game and held a special presentation for it at Tokyo Game Show 2024.

In 2024, the studio began writing music and recording the Japanese dub for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and last summer began playtesting and actively filling the game with content.

For the OD horror title, which is being produced with Xbox Game Studios, Kojima Productions was busy scanning actors and environments, but was forced to pause production in the second half of the year.

All because of the SAG-AFTRA union strike that began in the summer. The protests forced the suspension of casting for the “next generation spy action film” Physint. The studio hopes to return to production in 2025.

Kojima also said that the Death Stranding film, announced in 2022, which was joined by film studio A24 last winter, is in the planning and pre-production stage along with “other adaptations.”

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is expected to release in 2025 on PS5, and release dates and target OD platforms have not been specified. Production of Physint will begin after the completion of work on DS2.
