Over the past year, Apple has released many Mac series computers with the new M4 processors, and by now their owners are increasingly complaining about unexpected problems. These computers turned out to be incompatible with ultrawide monitors.

Complaints come from users of the Apple Community and Reddit forums, as well as from readers of specialized resources. Computers based on Apple M4 chips refuse to work correctly with ultra-wide monitors with a resolution of 5K2K (5120 × 2160 pixels) and others. These devices do not display the correct resolution options for these monitors, causing the interface and text on the screen to appear blurry. The same monitors work perfectly with older Macs with Intel and Apple Silicon chips. However, when connected to machines on the M4, for some reason the HiDPI mode is not activated, which allows you to scale the interface and provides a clear image.
Most of the complaints come from owners of the new Mac mini, although similar problems have been reported on the MacBook Pro with M4. HiDPI option is not enabled on Mac mini with M4. It works fine on a MacBook Pro with M1 Max, but when connected to a MacBook Pro with M4 Max there is no 3840 x 1620 resolution. Some users were able to enable HiDPI mode using third-party software such as BetterDisplay, but this reduced the screen refresh rate from 75 to 60 Hz. Apple has not yet acknowledged the problem, and a reliable solution has not yet been found.
