ChatGPT has stopped working for many users around the world. Multiple posts on social media, as well as our own testing, showed that the chatbot was loading but not responding. Also, many users see a message about “internal server error”.
It appears that the outages began at approximately 21:30 Moscow time. That’s when messages started popping up on Down Detector. At 22:00 BST, OpenAI posted an update to its service status page, saying that ChatGPT, its API, and the Sora text description video generator are “currently experiencing high error rates.” An update posted at 22:18 BST said the issue was “caused by an upstream provider” and that OpenAI was currently monitoring the situation.
At 11:06 p.m. BST, OpenAI said it was “continuing to work on a fix.” There is no word yet on the time frame for restoring full functionality of services.
ChatGPT has already crashed several times over the past few months. Just days after OpenAI released Sora to paid ChatGPT subscribers earlier this month, the video creation tool and ChatGPT went down for several hours. Meanwhile, in June, ChatGPT was taken down in a widespread outage.
