Samsung will release microSD cards with Sonic the Hedgehog characters

Samsung Electronics America has announced the release of a new line of microSD cards inspired by the iconic characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Created in collaboration with SEGA, the new microSD offers fans not only storage expansion, but also the ability to customize their devices with designs inspired by their favorite characters.

The Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD memory line, as reported by TechPowerUp, will be presented in four variants, each of which has a unique design depicting one of the characters – Knuckles (128 GB), Tails (256 GB), Sonic (512 bytes) and Shadow (1 TB). According to Jim Kiczek, vice president of memory marketing at Samsung Electronics America, “Samsung PRO Plus MicroSD cards provide gamers, content creators and all users with reliable, secure and convenient storage of large amounts of data, delivering speeds worthy of the most Sonic.”

Each microSD is colored according to the character – red for Knuckles, yellow for Tails, blue for Sonic and black for Shadow the Hedgehog. In addition to the striking design, the devices provide high performance. The sequential read speed reaches 180 MB/s, and the write speed reaches 130 MB/s, which will minimize delays and increase the comfort of use. For example, a 1 TB card can hold more than 47 hours of 4K Ultra HD video, over 437 thousand images in the same quality, or about 45 games with a capacity of 20 GB each.

These microSDs are also highly reliable. They have passed many tests for resistance to water, extreme temperatures, X-rays and even magnetic fields. They’re also drop-resistant over 5 meters, up to 10,000 recording cycles, have a 10-year limited warranty, and are compatible with a wide range of devices, including handheld gaming consoles, smartphones, tablets, action cameras and drones.

Sonic the Hedgehog PRO Plus microSD will go on sale in January 2025 on Samsung.com and other retailers. Suggested retail prices are $24 for the 128GB card, $37 for the 256GB card, $69 for the 512GB card, and $125.99 for the 1TB card. In addition, registration will be available on the Samsung website to receive notification of the start of sales, as well as an exclusive 30% discount on the purchase of cards in this series.
