Artist Leo Torres, who has been recreating iconic locations of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim using Unreal Engine 5 since the fall of 2022, has released a “remaster” of one of the most popular videos of his series.
We are talking about a video (1.2 million views) dedicated to the port city of Dawnstar, the capital of the White Coast domain. The demo was based on Unreal Engine 5.1 and ran in real time on a mobile RTX 3060 (6GB).
According to Torres, the original video was limited by the capabilities of the RTX 3060 – in addition, the Unreal Engine 5 has since received numerous improvements in lighting, rendering and performance.
In the new video, Torres undertook to show Dawnstar with higher quality materials, corrected geometry and in a more realistic scale compared to the previous version. “If Bethesda can do this, then so can I,” jokes the artist.
The updated Dawnstar was rendered in Unreal Engine 5.4 on an RTX 3090. The artist used his own and third-party models, Lumen lighting technology (for global illumination and reflections) and Nanite geometry (for models and foliage).
Viewers appreciated Torres’ efforts, noting in the comments the atmospheric atmosphere of the scene, the author’s attention to detail, and the charge of nostalgia that accompanied the video. “Like a home,” shared NM_02.
In addition to Dawnstar, in the past Torres showed the transformed Whiterun, Solitude, Winterhold, Blackreach, Markarth, Falkreath, Morthal, Riften and Windhelm. The Elder Scrolls VI has been in active development since last summer.
