Apple has launched the development of a smart doorbell with Face ID

Apple has launched the development of a smart doorbell that can automatically unlock the door by recognizing the face of the owner of the room. The advanced Face ID system can be integrated with Apple HomeKit, a platform for managing smart home devices.

Apple currently offers a range of third-party HomeKit-enabled locks on its website, but a smart bell with Face ID will be a completely new direction in the use of facial recognition technology. According to 9to5Mac, the new device will integrate with existing smart locks today, and it is also possible that Apple could enter into a partnership with an independent manufacturer of such locks to create an end-to-end solution.

As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes, Apple “has a tradition of entering untapped markets with an innovative product with unique features,” and Face ID-enabled calling is not only no exception, but could become a serious competitor to Amazon’s Ring solutions. and Google Nest, as Apple’s offering will, as always, feature a high level of security and convenience. However, according to the journalist, the device is at an early stage of development, and its release should not be expected until the end of next year.

Despite the attractiveness of the idea, experts point to possible risks for Apple. There is a possibility, although extremely small, that the system may not work or make a mistake and allow strangers into the house. In addition, if malicious actions are carried out through a third-party lock, this may also lead to claims from users, even if the device was manufactured by a different company.

If Apple decides to refuse to release its own product, then, as Gurman notes, there is an alternative option. The company can sell its technology to third-party brands, such as Logitech or Belkin, with whom it already has close cooperation. In any case, Apple intends to actively expand and strengthen its presence in the smart home device market.
