The classic turn-based strategy Heroes of Might and Magic III was released more than 25 years ago, but still remains in the minds of fans. A group of enthusiasts implemented the legendary game in the browser.
The browser version of “Heroes of Might and Magic III” is a joint project of the developer of the Dos.Zone portal under the pseudonym caiiiycuk and blogger Carter54, who popularizes emulation and retro games.
According to Carter54, the browser version of the legendary strategy was based on the open source fan-made VCMI engine for the third “Heroes”, which was subsequently successfully ported to web technologies.
You can play the web version of “Heroes of Might and Magic III” on the website homm3.zip. There is support for “virtually any browsers and devices” (Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS).
They also promise:
- No advertising, monetization and “other uncool bullshit”;
- Saving (including automatic) and loading progress both locally and through the browser cache;
- Original campaigns, including “Rebirth of Erathia” and add-ons “Blade of Armageddon” and “Breath of Death” – support for unofficial add-ons “In the Name of the Gods” and “Horn of the Abyss” will be added in the future;
- More than 160 scenarios;
- Map generator;
- Cross-platform multiplayer for VCMI users;
- Support for high resolutions (automatic detection when starting the game).
It’s worth noting that this is not the first attempt to bring Heroes of Might and Magic III to browsers. In the past, enthusiasts were developing the HeroWO project, but at some point, according to Carter54, it was abandoned.
