The list of nominees for the 2024 Steam Award, released yesterday, puzzled some because it was compiled in violation of Valve’s current rules, but the company has already clarified the situation.

Let us remind you that until recently, games could qualify for victory at the Steam Awards in a maximum of two categories – “Game of the Year” / “Virtual Reality Game of the Year” and one more – however, the list of finalists for the 2024 Steam Awards was compiled differently.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Black Myth: Wukong, Balatro and Helldivers 2 were mentioned in three categories (Game of the Year and two others), and Hades II, the Silent Hill 2 remake and Satisfactory were mentioned in two (outside Game of the Year) ).

Valve’s violation of its own rules puzzled users, however, as it turned out, the company did not violate the rules for selecting Steam Award finalists, because it quietly changed them.
From now on, games can compete for a maximum of three awards – “Game of the Year” / “Virtual Reality Game of the Year” / “Best Game on Steam Deck” and two more. Under these conditions, the list of nominees for the 2024 Steam Awards does not violate anything.

The full list of nominees for the 2024 Steam Award in all 11 categories is available here. Voting in all categories will begin with the start of the Steam Winter Sale – December 19 at 21:00 Moscow time.
Voting ends on December 31 (also at 21:00 Moscow time) – the winners will be announced at the same time. For voting in each category, users will receive one chat sticker.
