Windows Central editor Jez Corden talked about Xbox’s current plan for console exclusives in a new piece, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella explained the gaming division’s strategy.
According to Corden, Latitude’s initiative to bring Xbox games to competing platforms has entered its next phase with the announcement of The Outer Worlds 2 for PS5 at The Game Awards 2024.
According to Corden, in the future Xbox, with rare exceptions (due to various unforeseen circumstances), will abandon the practice of full-fledged console exclusives – only temporary ones will remain.
Microsoft’s “This is an Xbox” campaign, launched in mid-November, is a signal of the company’s desire to bring its ecosystem to gaming, including beyond Xbox consoles, according to Corden.
This means that games on other platforms will have an “Xbox flavor” – cloud saves and so on. The initiative is called Rainway. “Every game will become an Xbox in itself if Rainway comes to fruition,” Corden explained.
At the same time, Nadella said the following about the chosen Xbox strategy: “We decided to spread the joy of gaming everywhere. Hence all these Xbox ads where we’re redefining what it means to be an Xbox fan.”
Nadella emphasized that as part of Microsoft’s true gaming strategy, being an Xbox fan means “being able to enjoy Xbox on all your platforms.”
